The mountain dulcimer is a fretted string instrument typically with three or four strings commonly played while resting on your lap. You strum with your right hand and fret the cords with your left hand. Sheet music is written in tablature form which means there are numbers corresponding to a specific string on the instrument. There is no need to read actual notes on the sheet music.
We welcome acoustic folk instruments in addition to the traditional Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer.
An appreciation for music and ability to read numbers. No classical music education needed. At Raven Dulcimer Society, we promise to give you a learning experience that will develop your musical talents more than you have ever dreamed. Most of our members play the mountain dulcimer at our monthly meeting in Huntsville, TX. Dulcimer music lessons are available. Everything dulcimer describes our group.
